ABOUT FOUNDERS

Hello, I am Alexandr Kim -

OWNER AND FOUNDER OF KIMFILMS PRODUCTION AND KIMFILMS WEDDINGS. "KIMFILMS" IS A TRIBUTE TO MY FAMILY,

AND MORE SPECIFICALLY TO MY GRANDFATHER.

Funny enough, I never knew it will eventually become a family business, and now I work with my wife. We are both dreamers with a very clear vision about our creative work.

I was born and raised in Uzbekistan, in a family of Korean immigrants. I am fourth generation. As a teenager, I moved to Korea with my mom, where I spent probably the hardest years of my life, battling cancer - Leukemia. And as my life got more certain, we moved to Moscow, Russia.

As I remember myself, I was always a creative and curious kid. I loved dancing, singing, and finished music school in a class of piano. And I was always interested in videography! I still have my very first videos that I was filming back in school and editing in the simple movie maker. Who knew where it will get me in life :)

I got Bachelor’s in economics and worked in the National Bank for few years in a corporate headquarter of a collateral department. Huge responsibility, money, connections and respect for a 19-year-old. Driving G-Wagon, sport cars, I loved my life and had never imagined it any other way back then.

And suddenly boom, hello America! My first job was at Fry's Electronics in camera department. This is very symbolic for me right now, haha. And then few months after I started my career in Google. I was testing games for Google play. For just about six months. After that my ambitions took over and I decided to become a filmmaker. Obviously, with that decision I moved straight to LA and that was the time when KimFilms was created.

I started taking classes in filmmaking, and for me the best way to learn is to practice it right away. I took on almost every project that was available, to get an experience. Events, music videos, YouTube channels, documentaries, small business promos, and then I got into the weddings. First it was just me, my camera and my computer. And then I met Marina.

Marina Kim

I am Ukrainian. I speak both Ukrainian and Russian. English, of course. I am a wife, mother and co-founder of KimFilms Weddings.

While getting my Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, I got so so interested in the film industry, that I started looking for job opportunities and any experience I could get in this field. I started out as hairstylist at music videos, and then gradually moved to a casting director position at a commercial production and worked as producer assistant for some time. My biggest dream come true was working at a feature film.

Moving to US was challenging and I decided to take a different route. I got Masters in Healthcare Administration, and worked for 3 years in a medical office and urgent care, and then transitioned into a medical aesthetics. I absolutely loved beauty industry and worked there for 9 years.

Until I got an urge to get back to film industry when I met Alex. This was my start at KimFilms. KimFilms is not just about weddings. We do commercial work and travel a lot.

Weddings is an interesting chapter in my life. At first, I was so excited about it, as it all seemed like a one big endless celebration to me. Until I dug deeper and started seeing a bigger, more complex picture of the day and what’s behind each beautiful wedding. Planning, stress, excitement, fears. I went through all of this as a Bride myself, and it completely changed my perspective on weddings, how we operate and what we can offer to couples.

As a client coordinator at KimFilms, it is my ultimate goal to make our client’s life easier, and the biggest challenge that I see in wedding planning - is an adequate timeline. Not only for couples and their guests, but also for the photography and videography team.

We all love those creative edits, with a story line, lots of personality, emotions, right? The wedding day is not just about saying I DO’s anymore, it is about you, your story, and where it all started. This is the philosophy behind our films. And, of course, it does require certain time and client’s willingness to open up and share it with us, so we can tell their story through our work. People trust our vision, and it makes me so happy when we get a chance to work with creative couples that think out of the box, or are simply tired of the basic wedding videos, and want theirs to be different and unique.
